The Truth Behind Common Pregnancy Myths

The Truth Behind Common Pregnancy Myths
  • 16/07/2025

Pregnancy advice comes from everywhere your mother, neighbours, friends, even strangers at the market. Some of it is helpful, but a lot of it is just old myths that have been passed down without proof. I’ve seen mothers follow strict “rules” that have no medical basis, while ignoring things that actually matter.

Myth 1: You must eat for two

This one never seems to go away. Yes, you need more nutrients, but that doesn’t mean doubling your portions. For women with PCOS, eating for two can actually make things harder. That’s why we combine a healthy diet plan with PCOS treatment options for young women, making sure you get what your body and baby need without excess weight gain that could complicate delivery.

Myth 2: All pregnancies are low-risk unless told otherwise

Not true. Even if you feel fine, there can be signs of high-risk pregnancy in early stage that only show up in scans or tests things like high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, or restricted fetal growth. Waiting until you “feel” something is risky; early check-ups are non-negotiable.

Myth 3: Screening tests are only for older mothers

Completely false. We sometimes recommend a cervical cancer screening test for Indian women even during pregnancy if there are certain risk factors. Your age isn’t the only thing that matters your medical history and lifestyle do too.

At Sunflower Multispeciality Hospital, we respect tradition, but we rely on science. Myths may make for good stories, but when it comes to pregnancy, the truth will always keep you and your baby safer.
